PARIS – Oxford County Deputy Chancey Libby was surprised Monday when he learned the Maine Sheriff’s Association had named him Deputy of the Year. Sheriff Skip Herrick greeted him with the news. “I had no idea,” Libby said.

Libby has been recognized for his willingness to go beyond the call of duty while working on drug cases throughout the county, Herrick said.

Trial and Error

Farm help

AUGUSTA – People interested in purchasing or leasing land who need financial assistance will find help at the Women in Agriculture Network gathering at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, at the Maine Agriculture Trade Show at the Augusta Civic Center.

The network is a statewide network of experienced and growing farmers and agricultural service providers who cooperate to support value added, local, women-run farms. It conducts educational workshops at farms throughout the state.

Additional meetings will convene in the Waldo Room at noon Wednesday, Jan. 12, and 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 13. For more information, call Time and Tide RC&D at 622-7847, ext. 4.

Aid collection

LEWISTON – Beginning this week, all Bull Moose Music stores in Maine and New Hampshire are setting up cans to collect spare change, bills and checks for the American Red Cross of Southern Maine Tsunami Relief Fund. Funds will be collected through Wednesday, Jan. 26.

Bull Moose stores will have a list of other Tsunami Relief organizations available for those who wish to make donations later or to other organizations. These organizations were identified through CNN.com and USAID.com.

Bull Moose Music store include the Lewiston Mall; 151 Main St., Brunswick; North Windham Shopping Center; and 151 Middle St., Portland.
