LIVERMORE FALLS – Town officials are seeking people for the Board of Assessment Review and the Budget Committee.

The most immediate need is to fill the five-member Assessment Review Board, because the town has received an appeal from Bailey Brothers on an abatement request. The firm was turned down when it sought a reduction of the assessment on the old garage next to Ware-Butler.

Town Manager Alan Gove, who expects the date for that hearing to be set soon, said he would like a full board to be in place at the time. One new member was added Monday night when Jackie Knight volunteered to serve, but there are two more vacancies.

Gove said the board’s work is interesting, but the panel meets infrequently – about once every two to three years.

There are also openings on the Budget Committee, which will be reviewing the 2005-06 budget. That group usually meets in April and May, but it may hold a session sooner to review the status of the current budget before starting work on the next one.

Anyone interested in serving on the committees is asked to call the town office at 897-3321.

Gove also said the proposed ambulance agreement contains good news. “It appears that our high level of service can be continued and the municipal subsidy will drop by $8,500,” he said.

“We enjoy a very capable ambulance service with CES (Community Emergency Services), and Franklin Memorial Hospital is determined to carry on this emergency medical care,” he noted.

The ambulance service may be renamed “but we’ll still think of it as CES – a very successful three-town effort,” he said. Gove anticipates the new name will be NorthStar.

Other good news for the town is the reduction in trash tipping fees at Jay by $3.41 per ton, to $78 per ton. This is welcome, Gove said, because at the present rate, spending will exceed the $117,000 budgeted.
