OTISFIELD – About 60 percent of the field work is complete in a townwide revaluation by John E. O’Donnell & Associates of New Gloucester.
O’Donnell reported on his progress at Wednesday’s meeting and offered to meet with selectmen in February and March to go over the process for assigning new assessed values to properties in town.
In a letter he submitted to the board, O’Donnell disagreed that such meetings were necessary under the state’s revaluation guidelines, as resident Gary Tougas had said.
But he said he was happy to meet with the board if members wanted to. He also noted that his company is on the state’s list of qualified firms, and that it has conducted annual tax assessing in Otisfield since 1990.
“We have a working relationship with Otisfield that goes back to 1968 in tax mapping,” he said. O’Donnell & Associates completed the town’s last revaluation in 1995. It began working on this latest revaluation in March of 2004.
In his report, O’Donnell said his firm has visited 1,050 of the town’s 1,750 properties for outside examinations. About 80 percent of land data entry is complete.
He expects that notices of the new values will be mailed in April, with time set aside after that for reviews.
The entire project is expected to be completed by September. O’Donnell’s contract with the town calls for a total payment of $92,000, with $33,120 now due for work completed to date.
