In light of the terrible conditions due to the tsunami in Indonesia, the dreadful news from Iraq and the plight of the homeless and hungry in this country, one wonders what onlookers from around the world will say concerning the lavish plans for the inauguration in Washington.

The display of wealth and the flaunting of opulence, as limousines line up to take the expensively dressed folks to cocktail parties and dinners and on to the numerous inaugural balls will surely not win us friends or endear our partners to us.

Does this not make for more hatred and bitter feelings around the world?

Surely these displays of untold wealth do not reflect this country’s family values or our deep humanitarian concerns.
