FARMINGTON – Registrations are still being accepted for the Farmington Recreation Department’s prep basketball program. It is for boys and girls in grade one or who are 6 years old.
The registration deadline has been extended to Tuesday, Jan. 11, and registration forms are available at the Recreation Department office at 127 Middle St.
The program will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays for six weeks at the Farmington Community Center. The program started Jan. 4, but registration has been extended to increase the number of participants.
Last winter the noncompetitive, entry-level basketball program introduced 20 youngsters to the sport.
Each child will begin to learn the rules and fundamental skills of basketball through drills, games, contests and controlled scrimmages. It is intended to provide a pressure-free atmosphere to learn and enjoy the game. There are no team assignments, playing schedules to follow, or trophies to win.
Jodie Nelson will serve as director, and the assistant director is University of Maine at Farmington senior Erin LaRochelle.
The registration fee is $20, and a $5 nonresident fee is charged to those who do not live in Farmington, Farmington Falls, West Farmington or Fairbanks.
More information may be obtained by calling the Farmington Recreation Department at 778-3464.
