NEW SHARON – Two people were injured, one critically, Monday morning when their vehicles collided on slushy Route 2 near the Gage Farm.
Candace Jameson, 22, of Mercer, was traveling west on the highway when she lost control of her vehicle. The vehicle spun sideways and was struck broadside on the passenger side by a vehicle driven by Joshua Atwood, 22, of Wilton, who was traveling east, Maine State Police Trooper Randy Keaten said.
Jameson received severe head trauma in the accident and was first taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, then transferred to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Keaten said.
She was in critical condition Monday afternoon, a CMMC spokeswoman said.
Atwood was taken to the Farmington hospital and was treated and released, a Franklin Memorial spokeswoman said.
State police reconstructed the accident.
Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy Heidi Gould assisted Keaten at the scene, he said. New Sharon and Farmington firefighters were also on the scene to help.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, Keaten said. Both cars were totaled, he said.
