LEWISTON – Gilberte “Gibbie” A. Frabizio, 83, of 60 Rachel Blvd., died Thursday, Jan. 13, at her home with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Dorchester County, Quebec, Canada, on Aug. 20, 1921, the daughter of Eugene and Merelese (Aube) Couture.

On Nov. 9, 1940, she married her husband of 55 years, Laurence M. Frabizio, who passed away on April 8, 1996.

In September of 1961, she proudly became a naturalized U.S. citizen.

After working for many years at the Lown Shoe Factory as a fancy stitcher, and following her husband’s retirement, they opened and operated Frabizio’s Country Store in South Harpswell.

Gibbie also had a quaint thrift and antique shop next to the Country Store. South Harpswell became her home for many years and the folks there loved and respected her.

Gibbie enjoyed playing beano, going to movies, bargain hunting at garage sales and thrift shops, reading, watching CNN and other news program (she was as sharp as a tack), and most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and watching her great-grandchildren grow up. She adored her cats, Yellow Baby and Black Baby, spending hours every day playing with and caring for them.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Auburn.

She will be fondly remembered as a loving, giving, caring soul who always put the needs of others ahead of her own. She had a huge capacity to love, and made every person in her life feel special as a result of that love.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Dupuis and her companion, Sheldon Doody, of Lewiston with whom she made her home for the past three years; her son, Laurence R. Frabizio of Lewiston; two granddaughters, Gail Natt and her husband, Greg, of Hooksett, N.H., and Laurie Danforth of Lewiston; her grandson-in-law, Sonny Danforth of Lewiston; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Marilyse Danforth of Lewiston; two sisters, Rose Harkins McKenny of Florida, Theresa Thompson of Connecticut; and by her loving Godson Gregory Harkins, “Duffy” of Toronto, Canada. There are also a vast number of nieces and nephews, all who were deeply loved and blessed to have known her.
