LEWISTON – Theresa R. Melancon, 77, of Wild Dunes Way, Old Orchard Beach, died Thursday, Jan. 13, at the d’Youville Pavilion following a brief illness.

She was born in Biddeford on Aug. 4, 1927, the daughter of Louis and Severine Landry Roussel and was educated in Biddeford schools.

On Sept. 5, 1949, she married Renald A. Melancon at St. Andre’s Church in Biddeford.

With her husband, she owned and operated Melancon’s Market in Old Orchard Beach, retiring in 1986.

She was a member of St. Margaret’s Church and was very active in the Knights of Columbus Aux. Council 2266.

She enjoyed playing cards on Thursday nights, traveling to Atlantic City and Las Vegas and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include four daughters, Lina T. Doucette of Lewiston, Constance R. Sharuga of Cheyanne, Wyo., Jacqueline Corthell and her husband, Franklyn, of Lady Lake, Fla., Carol A. St. Michel and her husband, Richard, of Old Orchard Beach; three sons, Roger A. Melancon and his wife, Ann, Normand O. Melancon and his wife, Donna, both of Old Orchard Beach, and Michael J. Melancon of Lewiston; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Renald A. Melancon, on Jan. 7, 2000; and a granddaughter, Alexis Melancon also in 2000.
