The animal shelter in the Lewiston and Auburn area needs to increase the size of their building. Animals are lost and left out in the streets every day. The animals might make it to the shelter if they are lucky to be found. People find the animals on the streets and bring the cats or dogs there. Some people may hurt the animals instead of bringing them to the shelter.

Some people get sick of having animals around the house and leave them on the streets and other people bring them to the shelter. If an animal is not adopted, it will be put down. They can only have so many pets at the shelter at a time, so thousands of pets a year are or will be put down because of space. My cat was found on the streets and was brought to an animal shelter. He was lucky enough to not be one of the thousands of pets that are put down.

The animals need our care, and the shelter needs financial help in order to increase the space for animals. They also need toys, food and brushes. People can help by getting those things. People could also volunteer once or twice a week to help feed or clean the animals. Animals are just like people: They need food, water and, of course, love. You never know if the pet you are helping out could end up being yours.
