LEWISTON – Roger R. Goding Sr., 87, of Auburn, died Saturday, Jan. 15, at Central Maine Medical Center following a short illness.

Born in Auburn on July 24, 1917, he was the son of Ezra and Minnie Berthall Goding.

He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of the V.F.W., Senior Citizens Clubs in Auburn and Lewiston. He attended several local churches.

Educated in Auburn Schools, he became a woodsman and laborer for many years, including private lawn care and snow removal.

He was a talented harmonica player and played frequently at local nursing homes and for many people. He loved traveling, people, good food and lived life to the fullest.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 63 years, Marie Doyon Goding; eight children; three sons, Roger Goding Jr. and wife, Jacqueline, of Lewiston, James of Auburn, and Thomas and wife, Nancy, of Mauldin, S.C.; five daughters, Shirley Ann Goding of Donna, Texas, Joyce and husband, Darryl Heath, of Auburn, Doris and husband, Gary Beardsley, of Albany, N.Y., Diane and husband, Paul Del Signore, of Turner, and Sharon Goding and companion, Mark Morin, of Greene; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was predeceased by his parents; one daughter, Jane Marie Goding; three brothers, Richard, Bill and Lawrence; three sisters, Esther, Elizabeth and Viola.
