LEBANON, N.H. – Gerald R. “Jerry” McPherson, 76, of Lyndon, Vt., died suddenly Tuesday, Jan. 18, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

He was born June 12, 1928, in Rumford, son of the late Walter and Lillian (Durland) McPherson.

After his schooling, McPherson served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.

On April 1, 1950, he married Virginia Lyons. They lived in Rumford until he retired after 40 years as a bulldozer operator with the Boise Cascade Co. in 1986. He and his wife then moved to Vermont.

He was an extremely devoted family man with a quick wit and was considered dependable to a fault.

Memberships include the American Legion Post 24 and the VFW Post 1641, both of Rumford; and the Moose Lodge 1779 of St. Johnsbury, Vt.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia L. McPherson, of Lyndon, Vt.; three sons, Wayne S. McPherson and his wife, Mary, of Rumford, Michael E. McPherson also of Rumford, and Joseph P. McPherson and his wife, Paula, of Farmington; two daughters, Bonnie L. LaBelle and her husband O’Neil of Sabattus, and Tina M. McPherson of Dixfield; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
