CANTON – Rowena V. Smith, formerly of 12 Pleasant St., Livermore Falls, died Thursday, Jan. 13, at Victorian Villa in Canton, after a short battle with cancer.

Born in South Portland on June 6, 1921, she was the daughter of Winfield A. Cash Sr., and Clara Emerson Cash.

She was an active Auxiliary member of the Amvets, VFW, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.

She attended Temple schools, and spent many years working in Maine’s shoe factories and laundries.

She enjoyed her cats, bird watching, tending her flowers, and visiting with family and friends. Her cooking, especially peanut butter bars and biscuits, were enjoyed by all.

Survivors include five daughters, Patricia Rowe of Wilton, Carol Conley of Ft. Myers, Fla., Shirley Buxton of Costigan, Brenda Hanson and husband, Richard, of Orrington, and Barbara Gilbert and husband, Paul, of Goose Creek, S.C.; one son, Kenneth Hutchins of South Portland; one sister, Virginia Littlefield of Portland; three brothers, Leonard Cash of Windham, Kenneth Cash of Gorham, and Norman Cash of Scarborough; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Ulysses Grant Hutchins; second husband, John Whitman; third husband, Frederick “Bob” Smith; her son Robert; daughter, Sandra; her parents; sisters, Ruth Groneng and Della Fogg; brothers, Robert Cash, Winfield Cash Sr., Wendell Cash.
