LEWISTON – Robert A. Collins, 76, of 851 Summer St., Auburn, died Wednesday evening, Jan. 19, surrounded by his family after a brief illness.

He was born March 27, 1928 in Brockton, Mass., the son of Theodore A. and Mildred (Kenseth) Collins.

After his family moved to Maine, he attended schools in Belfast, Searsport and Auburn and graduated from Edward Little High School the Class of 1945. During his high school years he held the All-Eastern Pole Vault Champship title. He continued his education at the Maine School of Commerce in Auburn.

Bob served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, achieving the rank of Seaman Second Class, he was honorably discharged in 1946. On July 4, 1948, he married Madolyn G. Redmun and they resided in Auburn and then in Serbring, Fla. for seventeen years. He worked for Eastern Refractories, Inc. for 38 years, until his retirement as Manager in 1985.

He was member of the Kora Arab Patrol, and the Mason Tranquil Lodge 29 AFAM. He coached baseball at the Auburn Suburan Little League for many years. He was a avid golfer and loved to mow his lawn.

He is survived by his wife, Madolyn of 56 years; two sons, John Collins of Eagle Mills, N.Y., David Collins and his fiancee, Mary Jane King, of Auburn; one daughter, Diana and her husband, Scott Brooker; seven grandchildren, Amie and Mark of Eagle Mills, N.Y., Olivia, Tessa and Nolan of Fort Collins, Colo., Sarah and Andy Brooker and his wife, Jennifer; and one great-grandson Jason Brooker all of Auburn.
