BOSTON (AP) – The Coast Guard ended its search Friday for a New Bedford fisherman who fell overboard about 150 miles east of Cape Cod.

A nearby boat reported around 11:30 a.m. Thursday that Mark Farias, 38, had fallen from the 84-foot Legacy, based in Fairhaven. He was not wearing a life jacket or survival suit.

The Coast Guard searched for 24 hours, using a jet, helicopter and cutter. A Canadian Department of Fisheries aircraft also sent two flights in a search that covered 1,800 square miles, the Coast Guard said.

Temperatures dipped below zero overnight and the water temperature was in the low 40s in the area where Farias went overboard.
