This is the message I get from Michael Heath and the holier-than-thou Christians who think they are messengers from God and superior beings (Jan. 16). They would change our Pledge of Allegiance to end: “….with liberty and justice for all, except gays.”

We recently celebrated Martin Luther King Day. How does that kind of hateful prejudice fit into King’s dream for America?

One of the kindest things I’ve seen Vice President Cheney do was to let his daughter out of the closet. Unfortunately, her mother put her back and locked the door.

There will always be people who are not heterosexual. They cannot be what they are not any better than anyone who is heterosexual will become homosexual. What is the big deal? Why should anyone care how people love one another?

What everyone should care about is abuse of any kind, be it child, spousal, animal or persecution of people because they are different. To refuse the passage of Gov. Baldacci’s proposal of laws to protect gays is to condemn them to live in a society of fear.
