RUMFORD – Elbridge Leon Farwell, 50, died Saturday, Jan. 22, at his home on Somerset Street in Rumford, as a result of heart disease.

He was born in Rumford, on Aug. 28, 1954, the son of Elbridge L. “Archie” and Pauline (Dorr) Farwell. He graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford, Class of 1972, and took engineering classes at the University of Connecticut.

He worked in Groton, Conn., building submarines, and he then worked as a machine tender for Boise Cascade Paper Company for several years. He also worked as the controlling operator in Alabama on a large new paper machine.

He enjoyed hunting at camp in Newry with his dad and many friends. He also enjoyed antique cars, fishing, and golf. He sang in RAAPA for several years and worked with handicapped skiers. His happiest days were spent caring for his granddaughter, Kelsea, the apple of his eye. He loved cats and dogs, especially his dog, “Molly.” He was proud of his two nephews, and enjoyed the time he spent with them. He will be sadly missed for his great sense of humor and his loving ways.

He was married in Grove Hill, Ala., on Aug. 1, 1997, to the former Jody Dow, who survives him, of Rumford. Other survivors include his mother, Pauline Farwell of Rumford; a sister, Kathleen Jasud and husband, Michael, of Rumford Center; stepsons, Leon Lowell of Rumford, and Ryan Lowell of Jay; a granddaughter, Kelsea Lowell of Rumford; and nephews, Tyson, and Tyler Jasud of Rumford Center.
