FARMINGTON – Harold “Buddy” Kyes, 75, of Industry, passed away Jan. 23, at the Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.
He was born on Oct. 29, 1929, in Industry, the son of Edgar and Ruby (Hodgkins) Kyes. He was a graduate from Mount Blue High School, Class of 1948. He married Virginia Pond on Aug. 23, 1952 in Industry.
He was a school bus driver for SAD 9 for many years, driving the Farmington, New Sharon, and Weld routes. He has many fond memories from the children on his routes, whom he got to know over the years. He received a prestigious national bus driver award in 1990, called the Pioneer Bronze Eagle Award.
He was also well known in Industry for owning and operating the Kyes Store for 49 years, on Clearwater Lake, with his wife. He was a member of Shorey Chapel, in Industry, the Chrystal Lake Grange, from 1956 to present, in Industry, and the Odd Fellows of Farmington. He enjoyed trading sports cards, and gardening; as many know of his beautiful raspberry patches where he would spend endless hours.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Virginia; one daughter, Cynthia Hall and her husband, David, of Industry; one son, Gregory Kyes and his wife, Diane, of Wilton; four grandchildren, Amanda, Kimberly, Ethan, and Bridget; and one sister, Wilma Hobbs of Farmington.
