MANISTIQUE, MICH. – Former Mexico resident Ruth W. Gallop, 100, died Jan. 19, in Manistique, Michigan.
She was born March 18, 1904, in East Longmeadow, Mass., the daughter of Edward and Jennie (Robertson) Walsh, and graduated from the Commerce High School in Springfield, Mass. She spent the greater part of her life in Wakefield, Mass., Mexico, and Manistique, Mich., moving from Maine to Manistique in 1979.
On Sept. 1, 1928, she married Myron E. Gallop in Springfield. He preceded her in death on June 8, 1967.
She was a member of the Congregational Church of Mexico. She was a homemaker, artist, and teacher. She was also an active member of the Esther Stevens Brazier Guild of Early American Decorators, while in Maine, and taught this art at the Rumford Mechanics Institute for many years.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary (George) Lyon of Manistique, Mich., and Elizabeth Seltmann of Westbrook, Conn.; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Richard W. Gallop.
