FARMINGTON – SAD 9 directors are scheduled to discuss board leadership at their meeting today. The board will also have a first reading of two policies pertaining to administering drugs to students and students’ physical examinations.

Chairman Greg Webber of New Sharon resigned as chairman two weeks ago, citing personal reasons. His resignation is effective Feb. 1.

Superintendent Michael Cormier said that the board will need to decide how it wants to fill the chairman’s position. The vice chairman of the board is Ray Glass.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Mt. Blue High School library.

The board is scheduled to review two policies for a first reading.

A policy dealing with administering medication to students has been updated to include a legislative amendment to allow students who need inhalers or EpiPens to be able to carry them with parental and medical authorization, Cormier said.

The current district policy on administering medications to students is two pages long, Cormier said, and the new one is five pages.

A second policy to be reviewed, Cormier said, is one that would cover student examinations. Currently, there is no policy, he said. But there are administrative procedures requiring students to have a physical examination every three years before entering school, Cormier said.

The new policy would require students to have physical examinations every two years, he said. If the policy is adopted, it wouldn’t go into effect until the next school year.

The board is also scheduled to have an update on the after-school program at Mt. Blue High School and adult and community education program.

Cormier also said he plans to give directors an update on school funding.
