NORWAY – Wesley E. Pateneaude, 66, of Oxford, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway, following a brief illness.

He was born in Winchester, N.H., on Aug. 31, 1938, the son of Elwin and Elizabeth (LeClair) Pateneaude.

He married the former Anita Reid, on April 5, 1958. He worked with his father-in-law at Reid’s Service Station in Oxford for many years, until he and his wife purchased the business from her father in 1980. They operated the business until it was sold in 1999.

He served his country in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959, and he was also a member of Oxford Congregational Church, serving as a trustee for more than 35 years. He was past president of the Maine State Horseshoe Pitchers Association, and served as a Cub Master for pack 196, from 1969 to 1971.

Survivors include his wife, Anita; a daughter, Linda, and husband, Steven Seamon, of Oxford; a son, Michael, and wife, Linda, Pateneaude of Oxford; a brother, Fred Strother of Winthrop; and five grandchildren, Cassandra Pateneaude, Jason McElvary, Jessica McElvary, Alexis Caron, and Mathew Seamon.
