DIXFIELD – Arlene May Merrill, 88, of Dixfield, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, at her home on the Merrill Road in Dixfield.
She was born April 6, 1916, in Frye, the only child of Guy and Myrtle (Rich) Hodgkins. On Nov. 11, 1946, she married Cecil Merrill in Dixfield. He died Feb. 5, 1979.
She worked at Diamond International, Stowell McGregor, and Livermore Shoe. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, flower gardening, watching game shows and watching the birds. She especially loved time spent with family, her grandchildren and beloved cats, Amy and Abby, and dog, Max.
She is survived by three sons, James Merrill and his wife, Janice, of Augusta, David Merrill and his wife, Josephine, of Canton, and Peter Merrill, and his wife, Tina, of Canton; two daughters, Janice and Carol Merrill, both of Dixfield; eight grandchildren, Rachel, Jonathan, Adam, Darcy, Patricia, Jason, Colleen and David Jr.; and six great-grandchildren, Sarah, Brittany, Megan, Devon, Cole, Cara and Jacob.
