RUMFORD – Norman H. Abbott, 77, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, at the Rumford Hospital. He was a resident of Roxbury Road in Mexico.

Born in Rumford Point, on Nov. 15, 1927, he was a son of Chesley and Clara (Farrar) Abbott. He graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford, Class of 1946.

He worked for Boise Cascade Paper Mill for many years. He was a member of the Cabot Lodge 117, Knights of Pythias, and was deacon at the Mexico Congregational Church.

He was married in Bethel, on April 7, 1947, to Arlene L. Goff who survives of Mexico. Other survivors include three sons, Chesley Abbott of Roxbury, Kenneth Abbott of Mexico, and Michael Abbott and his wife, Penny Lyn, of Skowhegan; three daughters, Donna Rouse and her husband, John, of Moncks Corner, S.C., Peggy Marcoux and her husband, Gerry, of Dixfield, Jo-Ann Surette and her husband, Brent, of Gray; a sister, Dorothy McPherson, of Rumford Point; and a brother, Herman Abbott also of Rumford Point; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two sons, James and Dennis Abbott.
