WASHINGTON (AP) – A California company is recalling its canned dry peas because they could pose a health risk.

Walong Marketing, Inc., of Buena Park, is recalling Temple Brand Cooked Dry Peas after the Food and Drug Administration sample indicated that harmful microorganisms could grow in them. No illnesses have been reported, Walong said in its recall released Tuesday.

The peas, distributed nationwide in retail stores and through direct delivery, come in 6-ounce cans marked with a can code of TDP 12504 on the top and with an expiration date of 10/2006 stamped on the side.

Consumers are warned not to use the product even if it does not look or smell spoiled. They are urged to return the product to the place of purchase, and retailers should remove the product from stores until further instruction from Walong.

Consumers can contact the company for information at 714-670-8899.
