LEWISTON – The condition of a New Sharon woman who was critically injured in a fatal accident on Thursday in Wilton has been upgraded.

Anna Mae Searles, 51, of New Sharon, was listed in stable condition Saturday at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, a nursing supervisor said.

Searles lost control of her truck on icy Routes 2 and 4 just before 8 a.m. Thursday and crossed into the oncoming lane, colliding head-on with a car operated by Barbara Hinkley, 59, of Jay.

Hinkley died instantly in the accident.

Searles’ teenage daughter and a friend were also injured in the accident and were treated and released from a Farmington hospital.
