NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) – A man was fatally shot on Saturday night as he went to fetch something from his friend’s car, and police sought the public’s help in finding the gunman.

Jonathan Butler, 22, was shot at about 9:30 p.m. His girlfriend noticed him doubled over, and when she went to check on him, he told her to bring him to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he died, according to New Bedford police.

There were no immediate arrests. City police and the district attorney’s office asked that anyone with information about the shooting step forward.
