LITCHFIELD – Romeo Jay Bourget, 68, of Grant Road, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 1, after a 20-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born in Rome, on Feb. 11, 1936, the son of Romain Joseph and Mildred Abbie (French) Bourget. He attended schools in Augusta, and graduated from Cony High School in 1954.

He married Judith L. Harriman of Gardiner, on Aug. 27, 1960. He was a very hard worker, and a loving husband and father. He loved and enjoyed his two granddaughters very much. He was an entrepreneur in the automotive business. He worked for various dealerships until he opened his own business in 1976, Romeo’s Body Shop. He and Leon Crockett also started Leon and Romeo’s Auto Sales, in 1980.

He joined the Masons in November 1972 and was a member of Morning Star Lodge 41 of Litchfield, and Past Master in 1995. He joined Mystic Chapter 69, Order of the Eastern Star February 1976 and was Past Patron four times in 1983, 1984, 1987 and 1988, and he joined Kora Shrine in June 1972. He was Director of the Kora Motor Corps from 1984 to 1994, when he stepped down to devote a year of rebuilding the Masonic Hall in Litchfield. He was also a member of the Royal Order of Jesters, Put Stevens’s 107 from 1993 to present.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Judith; sons, Mitchell J. Bourget and wife, Laurencia, of Falmouth, and Lawrence N. Bourget and wife, Lisa, of Raleigh, N.C.; brothers, Oliver K. Bourget and wife, Carolyn, of Gardiner, Romain Bourget and wife, Judy, of Augusta, and Bruce Bourget and wife, Nancy, of Gardiner; his two precious granddaughters, Gabrielle M. and Jacqueline M. Bourget of Falmouth; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and many, many friends. He was loved by all whose paths he crossed over the years.

He was predeceased by his father, Romain J. Bourget Sr.; mother, Mildred French Bourget; a sister, Sylvia Bourget, who passed away at age three; a half brother, Roger J. Bourget of Phoenix, Ariz.; and a half sister, Violette Willard of West Gardiner.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Swanson of Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dr. Keating of Mid-Coast Hospital, the staff of Chans Home Health Care and Hospice, and Assisted Home Care II for all they did to make his last months more comfortable.
