MEXICO – Ash Wednesday, Feb. 9, marks the beginning of the Lenten season that lasts for 40 days until Palm Sunday. The Mexico Congregational United Church of Christ, (also known as the “Green Church”) invites the community to ecumenically worship together.

The worship service will take place in the church, 163 Main St., at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Virginia Snapp-Cunningham will lead the service and the choir will sing. The imposition of ashes will be part of the service.

Class meeting

MEXICO – The women of Stephens High School class of 1943 will meet for lunch at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at the Mexico Chicken Coop. For more information, call Elaine at 364-8335.

Extension session

PERU – The Peru Extension Homemakers will meet at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Peru School. Members are asked to bring articles for the nursing home basket. Members are asked to bring thread, needles and scissors for work to be done on craft projects. Also bring a bag lunch. Elaine has the mystery.

Quilters to meet

RUMFORD – Rumford Area Quilters will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, at the Rumford United Methodist Church, Linnell Street.

All quilters are welcome to share ideas, questions and show and tell. Meetings are canceled if school has been closed in SAD 43 due to inclement weather. Anyone having questions can call 562-7050.

Society speaker

RUMFORD – The Rumford Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, in the Municipal Building Conference Room. Jane Bubar will speak about the history of Rumford Community Hospital and its expansion plans.

The public is invited. Bill Weston, president of the group will also tell a little of the plans being made to celebrate Oxford County’s bicentennial.

Alzheimer meeting
