FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) – A suspect in an in a string of jewel heists that left three people dead in two states was charged Tuesday with a capital felony in Connecticut and could face the death penalty.

Christopher DiMeo, 23, is accused of killing a husband and wife, Timothy and Kimberly Ann Donnelly, in their Fairfield jewelry store during a robbery last Wednesday.

An arrest warrant was issued Tuesday evening charging him with capital felony, felony murder, murder, robbery and criminal possession of a firearm.

“We haven’t made a decision on going for the death penalty,” said Bridgeport State’s Attorney Jonathan Benedict. “That determination won’t be made for some time.”

DiMeo’s girlfriend, 23-year-old Nicole Pearce, faces charges of felony murder and conspiracy to commit robbery.

The pair are also suspected in a $100,000 robbery in Glen Head on Dec. 21, 2004, in which jeweler Thomas Renison was shot to death. Both suspects were extradited Tuesday to New York from New Jersey where they were arrested on Friday.

Pearce is charged with murder and burglary in the Glen Head heist. DiMeo, who was arraigned as a fugitive and sought for a parole violation, will be charged with murder in that heist, said Detective Sgt. Herbert Daub of the Nassau County Police Department.

Benedict said he plans to talk to authorities in Nassau County, N.Y. on Wednesday before deciding how to proceed with prosecuting the pair in Connecticut.

Pearce was transported from Atlantic County Jail in New Jersey to Nassau County police headquarters Tuesday afternoon, police said. She was expected to be transferred to Nassau County Correctional Facility later in the day and arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.

DiMeo was expected to arrive in Nassau late Tuesday afternoon, police said.

On Sunday, Nassau County police also arrested DiMeo’s mother, Maryann Taylor-Casey, 40, of Hicksville, on murder and robbery charges in the Renison case. She allegedly helped Pearce case the jewelry store and acted as the getaway driver.

DiMeo was paroled last June from a 3-year prison term and moved to California but never contacted his parole officer, Daub said. After stealing a Honda SUV in San Marcos, Calif., the couple returned to New York state in October, going on a burglary binge to support their heroin habits, according to police.

In addition to the Connecticut and Long Island robberies, DiMeo is a suspect in jewelry store robberies in Westbury, on Long Island, on Dec. 5, and Nanuet, in Rockland County, on Jan. 26. He allegedly stole nearly $200,000 worth of rings.

Pearce and DiMeo face no charges in New Jersey.
