WILTON – The Maine Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Sports, Health and Wellness has awarded its Community Award to the Healthy Community Coalition for its “STRIDES Walk Around the World.”

It will be presented at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, in the State House in the Hall of Flags during Legislative Fitness Day. During the day, free health-risk assessments will be available to legislators. The assessments will look at blood pressure, cholesterol, strength, posture, flexibility, bone density, body fat composition and heart rate, and will include a computerized health risk assessment.

The day’s Contest for Communities celebration will begin with a welcome by Joan Benoit Samuelson and Dr. Erik Steele, who chair the council. Gov. John Baldacci is also expected to make a presentation, organizers said.

In addition to the Healthy Community Coalition’s award, Harriman Associates of Auburn will receive the Healthy Workplace-Small Business Award, and Samuelson, who lives in Freeport, will receive the Lifetime Achievement award.
