LEWISTON – Rose O’Brien, 94, of Lewiston, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, at d’Youville Pavilion, following a long illness.

She was born in Roxbury, Mass., June 29, 1910, the daughter of Dr. Dennis A. and Mary Joyce O’Brien, both Lewiston natives.

Following her father’s death when she was very young, the family returned to Lewiston where she grew up, graduating from Jordan High School, Class of 1928. She lived in Louisiana throughout the 1930s, returning to Lewiston in 1942, where she went to work for the Lewiston Evening Journal as a sports reporter.

In 1946, she became editor of the Lewiston Evening Journal Saturday Magazine, a position she held until her retirement, in June of 1982. From childhood she had been an avid reader, and she enjoyed traveling, the theater, music and all sports.

She is survived by several close friends.

She was predeceased by two older brothers; and two older sisters.
