AMHERST, MASS – Meg Coffin drained a game-high 19 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead Bates College to a 72-52 victory over Amherst in women’s basketball Friday night.

Betsy Hochadel also added 16 points and pulled down seven boards for the Bobcats (21-1).

Jenny Muller led Amherst (13-9) with 12 points while Stefanie Reiff added 10.

Bowdoin 74, Middlebury 50

BRUNSWICK – Ashleigh Watson scored 15 points from the bench to overwhelm Middlebury 74-50 in women’s basketball action Friday.

The Polar Bears (19-2) received double-digit scoring from three non-starters. Erika Nickerson had 13 points and Julia Loonin was good for 11. Starter Eileen Flaherty contributed 10 points, while Justine Pouravelis hauled down 10 rebounds for Bowdoin.

Elyse Carlson recorded a game-high 20 points for the Panthers (10-13) and Kate Fisher provided 16.

Williams 67, Colby 52

WATERVILLE – Maggie Miller drained 22 points and hauled down 12 rebounds to lift Williams College to a 67-52 win over Colby College in NESCAC women’s basketball action Friday.

Colleen Hession scored a game-high 23 points for Williams (18-5).

Williams led 38-26 at the half, but Colby (6-16) cut the lead to 40-38 about five minutes into the second half. The Eph’s went on a 7-0 run after that and never looked back.

Katie McCabe scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Mules. Wendy Bonner added 13 points and 10 boards in the loss.

Men’s basketball

Amherst 78, Bates 59

LEWISTON – Andrew Schiel poured in 28 points to carry Amherst to a 78-59 win against Bates College in men’s basketball Friday night. John Bedford tallied 15 points along with seven assists for the Jeffs (21-1).

Rob Stockwell and Elliot Linsley combined for 28 points for the Bobcats (16-7). Bates struggled from the free-throw line, going 5-15.

Men’s hockey

Colby 4, USM 3

WATERVILLE – Cory Ernst found the back of the net at 7:19 in the second period on a pass from Patrick Walsh and Josh Reber to give Colby College a 4-3 victory over University of Southern Maine in hockey action Friday night.

Colby (13-6-1) received three goals in the first period from Walsh, Jason Weigel and T.J. Kelley.

USM’s (8-7-1) Dane Marshall had three assists.
