NEWPORT – David Labonte drained 15 points and Joe Stachowiak chipped in with 12 to lead Lewiston to a 73-57 victory over Nokomis in KVAC boys’ basketball action Saturday.
The Blue Devils (10-4) held a commanding 36-16 lead at the intermission with Jon Fournier adding 10 points in the victory.
The Warriors (4-11) were led by Tyler Morris with 20 points, with 14 comming from the charity stripe.
Bangor 54, Mt. Blue 45
FARMINGTON – Mark Socoby scored 24 points and helped Bangor pull away in the final quarter for a 54-45 victory over Mt. Blue.
The Cougars (9-6) trailed 38-36 entering the final quarter and tied the game at 40-40. But Mt. Blue could not score the go-ahead basket and the Rams (14-1) finally pulled away at the end.
Ted Neil poured in 24 points to account for more than half of the Cougars scoring. Steve Wells chipped in with nine points.
St. Dom’s 55, Sacopee Valley 26
AUBURN – Justin Richardson scored 20 points to lead St. Dom’s to a 55-26 rout of Sacopee Valley in WMC basketball play at Callahan Memorial Gymnasium on Saturday.
The Saints used an 18-3 third period to put the game out of reach. Justin Fongemie chipped in with 16 points in the lopsided win.
The Hawks failed to place a player in double digits.
Halle-Dale 66, Lisbon 53
LISBON – Ben Laflin scored 19 points to lead Hall-Dale to a 66-53 win over Lisbon in their regular-season finale.
The Bulldogs (17-1) held a slim 30-25 lead at the end of the second quarter before pulling away in the second half. Matt Wheelock and Jack Leet added 15 and 14 points in the victory.
The Greyhounds (7-11) were paced by Mike Wilkins with 17 points and Levi Ervin with 12.
Mt. View 73, Oak Hill 49
WALES — Kyle Harvey scored 12 points to lead Mt. View to a 73-49 victory over Oak Hill.
The Mustangs (10-8) also received 10 points from Ben Ward and Kyle Tripp. Mt. View took command early, outscoring Oak Hill 26-10 in the first quarter.
Mike Eaton paced the Raiders (1-17) with 12 points.
Jay 69, Madison 59
JAY – Senior guard Justin Wells poured in 18 points to lead Jay to a 69-59 vicotry over Madison in MVC boys’ basketball action Saturday.
The Bulldogs (9-9) picked away at Jay’s 21-14 first-quarter lead until they tied the contest at 45-45 in the closing seconds of the third quarter.
The Tigers (8-10) transitioned in the fourth frame to break Madison’s press. Junior forward Brad Loon and senior forward Shane Bourgault snapped up 11 and eight points, respectively, in the 24-14 fourth quarter run.
Senior center Ryan Pinkham recorded 18 points, while Judah Norris and Tom Steuber contributed 15 points each for Madison.
Rangeley 59, Averill 45
RANGELEY — David Jensen scored 11 points to lead Rangeley to a 59-45 win over Averill.
Aaron Philbrick also reached double digits with 10 points for the Lakers (6-11). Rangeley built a 16-point lead in the first half and held on.
Joe Hart paced the Beavers with 12 points.
Hockey
Deering 13, G-NG/Poland 3
HEBRON – Nick Bartlett and Joe Gildart scored a pair of goals each and added a pair of assists to lead Deering to a 13-3 win over Gray-New Gloucester/Poland in hockey action Saturday.
The Knights were led by Jessie Miller, Matt Mingo, and Justin Milose.
Cape Elizabeth 5, Win-Dale 3
HALLOWELL — Dan Rautenberg netted three goals as Cape Elizabeth defeated Win-Dale 5-3.
Pat Kertis added a goal and an assist for the Capers (15-2), while Kyle Dancouse also scored. Cape Elizabeth goaltender Matt Bernstein recorded 12 saves on 15 shots for the win.
Nate Frechette scored twice for Win-Dale (5-7) and Russ Schmelzer scored one in the losing effort.
Lewiston 4, Cony 0
AUGUSTA — Adam Wilding netted two goals and recorded an assist for Lewiston as they shutout Cony 4-0 in varsity hockey play Saturday.
Kevin Leblanc and Travis Lebrun added a goal apiece for the Blue Devils (13-4) in the win. Lewiston goaltender Brian Nason notched six saves on six shots to secure the victory.
The Rams (4-13) were given a fighting chance by goaltender Nick Claudel who recorded 33 saves on 37 shots.
