If Gov. Baldacci believes the state needs more money, why doesn’t he propose a higher tax on hard liquors like the government did on cigarettes? Liquor hurts more people than smoking ever did. The government claims that smoking costs taxpayers millions of dollars in health care. Hard liquor not only costs the taxpayers millions in health care, it also kills people and breaks up families and homes.

Why doesn’t the governor propose the same amount of tax on every drink served in bars and restaurants as on a pack of cigarettes, and a big tax on liquor sold in stores?

It would help if the governor and Legislature could overhaul the way businesses are treated in Maine. Maybe then we could get some jobs back in to help with our money problems.
