AUBURN – Elizabeth Merrill Berry Caswell, 81, of New Gloucester, died Tuesday, Feb. 15.

She was born in New Gloucester, Sept. 30, 1923, the daughter of Henry True and Ina Haskell Merrill. She graduated from New Gloucester High School in 1942.

She graduated from Dr. Leighton’s Hospital in Portland as an LPN, working in the field of gynecology and obstetrics, until she was married in 1945 to Ronald Walter Berry of New Gloucester. He died in 1966.

She enjoyed cooking, knitting and crocheting, and was a 60-year member of the Sabbathday Lake Grange. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed family gatherings.

She is survived by her daughter, Althea Driscoll and her husband, Stephen; two sons, Walter Berry and his wife, Rena, and Stephen Berry and wife, Bonnie; seven grandchildren, Leesa and Jennifer Driscoll, Mitchell Berry, Cindy and Patricia Berry, Tim Lewis, and Angie George; one brother, True Merrill and his wife, Mary; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Blynn and Henry Merrill.

Mrs. Caswell’s family would like to thank the staff at Clover Manor for the wonderful care they provided.
