AUBURN – Get out your walking shoes.

The Abused Women’s Advocacy Project’s annual Winter Walk Against Violence will be held on Saturday, Feb. 26, and the agency is hoping to raise $20,000.

The event – the 12th in a row – will take place at the Auburn Mall from 8 to 10 a.m. The route is about 5 miles – 10 laps around the mall – with a rest stop and snacks along the way.

The walk is one of AWAP’s biggest moneymakers.

All proceeds will be used to help the agency offer support, services and shelter to victims of domestic violence in Androscoggin, Oxford and Franklin counties.

The event will be held rain or shine, but organizers are hoping for a clear morning. Last year, the event fell on a stormy day and only 50 people showed up to walk, as opposed to the usual 150.

All walkers will receive a free ice scraper. Those who collect $100 in pledges will be awarded with the Walk Against Violence T-shirt, and fleece scarves will go to those who bring in $150 or more.

Walkers who have been raising money already can bring their pledges directly to Auburn Savings on Court Street in Auburn from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18. Others can bring the money with them on the day of the event.
