DIXFIELD – Saturday’s eighth annual Blessing of the Sleds wasn’t exactly a blessing, officials said at Monday night’s Board of Selectmen meeting.

Selectmen and Public Works Director Tim Hanson expressed disgust that several sledders had ridden their machines all over the town’s snow-covered water reservoir.

“It looks like half the rally was held up there,” said Water and Sewer Department head Duane Powers.

According to organizers, more than 200 snowmobiles and riders attended the rally at Mountain View Campground off Weld Street.

Selectman Raymond “Tiny” Carlton said that before the event, the reservoir was trackless.

The board briefly discussed erecting fencing or signage to prevent similar occurrences that could contaminate the reservoir.

In other business, Coburn Avenue resident Sonya Fuller said something must be done about snowmobilers zooming up and down her street at highway speeds.

All-terrain vehicles are allowed to use the road in summer but, Carlton said, the road is off-limits to snowmobiles. He said he would contact the local snowmobile club and try to remedy the situation.
