BANGOR – Paul Gerald Chretien, 67, of Brewer, beloved husband of Dodie Chretien, died Feb. 17, at a Bangor hospital.

He was born Aug. 23, 1937, in Lewiston, son of Frank Joseph and Louise Marie (Tremblay) Chretien.

He was a 1955 graduate of St. Dominic High School, Lewiston. He served four years in the Intelligence Service of the U.S. Air Force, and graduated from the University of Maine in 1963.

He worked for Oscar Mayer, was general manager of the Star Beef Co., and worked many years at the AFL-CIO, developing property for senior housing projects in Madawaska, Augusta and Rockland. He also was general manager of the Maine McLean Group and Crosby Manor Estates, where he developed waterfront property in Belfast.

He worked for the Alumni Association of the University of Maine, and was on the board of trustees at Unity College and served as chairman of the Democratic Party of Maine, under former Gov. Ken Curtis.

He was a member and past grand knight of Pine Cone Council 114 and a member of Pine Cone Assembly 339 of Bangor. He was an avid golfer and will be remembered as a great Yankee fan.

Survivors include his wife, Doris “Dodie” (Preo) Chretien of Brewer; one son, Marc S. Chretien and his wife, Jeanette, of Brookfield, Wis.; three grandsons, Kyle, Tony and Joshua; two sisters, Marlene Manelski of McLean, Va., Faye Brickel and her husband, Robert, of Lewiston; a nephew, David Manelski and his wife, Suzanne, of Seattle, Wash.; his mother-in-law, Lucille Biron of Auburn; and a brother-in-law, Robert Preo of Norway.
