OTISFIELD – Drivers passing over Bolsters Mill Road may find themselves slowed by bridge work over the next six weeks.

Scott Qualey, a bridge supervisor with the Maine Department of Transportation, said workers will be replacing the tops of concrete wing walls on either side of College Swamp Bridge.

The bridge sits just north of the intersection of Bolsters Mill Road and Route 121.

“It’s non-emergency repairs,” Qualey said. The work was put on a maintenance list compiled by inspectors who check state bridges on a regular schedule, he said.

Travelers can expect to find one-way traffic over the bridge periodically between now and early April. Qualey said the work will not be continuous because his crews will be handling other projects at the same time.

According to department Bridge Manager Lee Emery, the tops of the wing walls on the side of the bridge will be replaced with new, higher ones, providing a wider road shoulder and approach to the bridge.

“Drivers should approach the area with the expectation that there may be another vehicle coming in the opposite direction and be prepared to yield to oncoming traffic,” he said. “It’s for their own safety as well as the safety of our workers.”
