PORTLAND – William F. Libby, 79, of Intervale Road, New Gloucester, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at a Portland hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Standish, he was a son of Everett M. and Dorris A. Blake Libby. He attended Gorham schools.

Mr. Libby was an Army veteran of World War II, captured during the Battle of the Bulge as a prisoner of war.

He worked as a woodsman most of his life, until 1966. From that time until retirement in 1986, Mr. Libby was a truck driver for Cole’s Express and for Shaw’s.

He also owned and operated a sawmill and was a blacksmith.

On July 12, 1945, he was married to Mary A. Page. She died Nov. 13, 1997.

He is survived by two sons, Stephen E. Libby and his wife, Patti, of Steep Falls, and Wayne F. Libby and his wife, Robin, of Stow; two daughters, Dianne Coy and her husband, Jim, of Texas, and Linda Sarkisian of New Gloucester; one brother, Everett Libby and his wife, Dee, of Calais; three sisters, Mary Parkhurst of Windham, Avis Smith of Massachusetts, and Rita Bernier and her husband, Dick, of Windham; seven grandchildren, Tammy Meggison and her husband, Larry, of Cornish, William F. Libby of Steep Falls, Kerry Libby of Bangor, Neil Libby of Cumberland, Aron Libby of Fryeburg, Rachael Clark of Kentucky, and Tara Butts of Texas.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Sylvia Williams and Clara Haley.
