In his column of Jan. 2, Rex Rhoades has again put the United States in the position of being the bad guy. “If only” we had taken better care of all the people in other countries, then maybe we might have prevented just one young person from becoming a jihadist. Unfortunately, those young people are being recruited by being offered more money than they would see otherwise (And where are all those funds coming from?) or are being threatened with the possible beheading of a family member.

U.S. officials have tried to reach out to some of these people, but have been rebuffed by those in charge or those who threaten.

Too many citizens have taken the attitude that this country is the worst nation in the world. These people are part of the problem and not part of the solution. All their complaining and whining attitudes seem to be directed against our president, with no real solution to the problem of terrorism except appeasement.

I would suggest that our own people give thanks that they are in a country which allows them the freedoms that others don’t have.
