SAO PAULO, BRAZIL – Marilyn Kinner Sherman, 52, died Saturday, Feb. 12, in Sao Paulo, Brazil, after a brave battle with breast cancer.

She was born on Nov. 19, 1952, in Lewiston, the beloved daughter of William and Kathleen Kinner of Greenville. She was the wife and best friend of her high school sweetheart, Joseph B. Sherman Jr., of Sao Paulo, and devoted mother of Angela Sherman and Melissa Sherman, currently of Menlo Park, Calif.

For most of her youth she lived overseas with her parents and sisters. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Chandler College in Boston, Mass. She spent most of the past 30 years in Brazil, where she raised her family. Her parents are truly grateful for the wonderful life her husband, Joe, provided for her. Even though far away in miles, part of her heart has always been in Maine. She looked forward to her annual visits and family gatherings at the lakes of Maine – Beech Hill Pond, Range Pond and especially, Moosehead Lake, where her parents now live.

She will be missed dearly by her aunts, uncles, cousins, godson Ethan Day, and many friends. Everyone who knew her knew of her passion for gardening and flowers. She was an accomplished floral designer, and chairman of the Sao Paulo Flower Show Judges Council, pillar of the Sao Paulo Garden Club and at the time of her death, had qualified as an accredited life judge of the National Garden Clubs, Inc., USA. Always ready and willing to help others, she was a member and former president of AWA, the American Woman’s Association, a support group for American wives of Brazilians.

She will always be remembered as one of the “Kinner Girls.” She will be deeply missed by her three loving sisters, Anita Carlson of Rutland, Mass., Kathie Pandolfo of Westbrook, Conn., and Carol White of Bethel.

She was always thinking of others and willing to help in any way she could. She was a caring aunt to Michael Kinner Pandolfo, Matthew Kinner Carlson, Carla (Pandolfo) Uzzell, Sarah Carlson, Emily White, Megan White and Cassidy Kinner White. Her love and encouragement will be with them forever.
