LEWISTON – Cecilia M. Mathieu, 64, the beloved wife of Maurice R. Mathieu, both residents of Oak Hill, Fla., died from a short bout of leukemia at Central Maine Medical Center on Tuesday, Feb. 22, while on visit to Lewiston to bury her mother, Rita Gallant, who died on Jan. 10.

She is leaving a short wonderful marriage of only 45 years, to be in the arms of God forever.

She was born in Auburn on August 10, 1940, the daughter of Morris and Rita (Pare) Gallant. She was a participant of Holy Cross Parish for many years, and now was a member of St. Gerard Parish in Edgewater, Fla. She was active in the choir there.

She was an avid reader and spent much of her life enjoying her family. She also enjoyed traveling, playing bingo, and was a NASCAR and football fan.

She is survived by her loving husband, Maurice R. Mathieu, also of Oak Hill, Fla.; and one brother, Ronald Gallant, of South Portland and his children, Fay Lynn and Garrett.

She was a proud mother of Mark A. Mathieu of Oak Hill, Fla., Louise Cyr and her husband, Roland of Lewiston, Rita Sturtevant and her husband, Mark of Wallagrass, Ann Robitaille and her husband, Marc of Lewiston, Jean Mathieu of Lewiston and Marie Stevens and her husband, Mike of Litchfield.

She is also survived by her cousins, Phil Pare, Marcel Pare, Rejean Pare and Rachel Pare and her husband, Merl Gott; also loving aunt, Vie, and uncle Bob Caron of Lewiston, and aunt Pricille and her husband, Joseph Caron, of Lisbon; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Jenna May Wing of Lewiston.

She was predeceased by her mother and father of Auburn.

Wherever she went, she always left a soothing trail. She will be missed immensely by all her family and friends.
