AUBURN – The community-wide reading of “Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America,” will kick off Monday.

The book by Barbara Ehrenreich was a 2001 nonfiction bestseller and Notable Book of the Year. It provides insight into the often invisible work force that fuels our service economy.

One Book/One Community, L-A Reads! community partners will hold a news conference at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 28, at Auburn Hall to announce this year’s program.

It will include a panel discussion April 12 on “Struggling to Get By in Lewiston-Auburn.” Local experts will discuss challenges that some individuals and families in L-A face as they try to get by working at low-wage jobs.

The discussion, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, at Lewiston-Auburn College, will be moderated by Rex Rhoades, executive editor of the Sun Journal. “Nickel and Dimed” is available for loan at the Lewiston and Auburn public libraries and can be reserved by calling either library.
