PARIS – The Oxford Hills Rotary Club raised $3,097 for the Rotary International Tsunami Relief Fund in January.

Throughout the month, club members made personal donations on a weekly basis to reach a goal after member Dan Allen and his wife, Nancy Mason, challenged the club.

They proposed that they would match 100 percent of the monies if members could reach the $1,000 mark in personal donations.

By month’s end, the club had collected $1,097 from its members. The Oxford Hills Rotary Club treasury also matched the funds raised from members and donated $1,000.

The money will be directed through Rotary International to Rotary clubs in the affected tsunami areas to provide transitional and long-term assistance to affected communities as they rebuild in the wake of the disaster.

Rotary International was founded in 1905 and is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year with the theme, “Celebrate Rotary.” The Oxford Hills club was chartered in 1983 and is in its 21st year.

The club meets at 7:30 p.m. every Wednesday at the First Congregational Church in South Paris. Anyone interested in attending a meeting should contact President Patty Rice at 743-7777 or visit www.oxfordhillsrotary.org.
