RUMFORD – Oxford County Republicans held their annual Lincoln Day dinner at the new Black Mountain Ski Lodge on Feb. 13.

More than 120 attended the informal occasion, which boasted tributes to Abraham Lincoln, the first Republican president, by the state’s two Republican U.S. senators, a dinner, entertainment of mime and humor by the “Wingnuts,” a serenade featuring political satire by Oxford County Republican legislators, and an auction and drawings for more than 20 items.

Special presentations were made to the past chairman, Paul Billings of Woodstock, and to the past male vice chairman, Jim Hamper of Oxford (now a new state representative) by the new chairman, Erlon Jones of Fryeburg.

Messages on Lincoln were presented by Diane Jackson, Sen. Olympia Snowe’s representative, and Sarah McCarthy, Sen. Susan Collins’ representative.

More than $1,500 was realized from the event for the committee’s treasury.

The next county meeting will be on Tuesday, March 8, at the Bethel Methodist Church, Main Street, Bethel. Larry Glatz, chairman of the Oxford County Bicentennial Committee, will be the featured speaker.
