STOWE, Vt. – Warner Nickerson and Abbi Lathrop gave Colby its best performances at an NCAA ski championships with second-place finishes in the men’s and women’s giant slalom Wednesday at Stowe Mountain Resort.

A pair of Vermont skiers, competing on their home mountain, prevented the Colby duo from winning gold.

Nickerson was only fifth after the first run, but rallied with the second-fastest time of the day on his final run to narrowly miss the individual title, 1:45.49 to 1:45.51.

Lathrop also took silver, finishing 2.5 seconds behind the women’s winner Jamie Kingsbury of Vermont.

Bethel’s Stephanie Vaughan, competing for New Hampshire, finished seventh in the women’s giant slalom.

Colby is second to Vermont in the team standings, but the lack of Nordic skiers will prevent the White Mules from challenging for the title.
