The towns of New Vineyard and Industry are going ahead with their town meetings today, but the first vote may be to postpone them due to the predicted heavy snowstorm, officials said Friday night.
In Vienna, Selectman Chris Smith said officials there decided to postpone the annual meeting scheduled for today until 9 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at the Community Center/Fire Station.
Selectman Carolyn Eaton of Industry said she was advised by the Maine Municipal Association that town elections “have to go on if they’ve been posted.”
Therefore, residents will vote from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the town hall.
The annual town meeting will convene at 2 p.m., and voters can decide to postpone action on the warrant if they wish, she said.
New Vineyard Selectman Lowell Dubay Jr. said Friday night that the annual meeting will start at 9:30 a.m. today at Smith Hall as scheduled, and “If not a lot of people show up, we’ll probably postpone it.”
The town of Canton decided Friday to postpone its meeting today to 9 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at the municipal building.
