Let’s get this out of the way: I like to fish and I like to hunt. I read the article (March 7) about the Bates College alumnus who wants to stop the fishing club at the college because he thinks it is cruel to the fish.

Why stop there? Let’s ban basketball, football and baseball. Isn’t leather used to make the balls? How about hockey? There must be some sort of animal parts in a puck. Oh, no!

And what about the textbooks? Some tree must have “lost its life and felt pain” to provide the pages.

It just amazes me how some people (I bet this person is from out of state) want to change our way of life.

The fish feels pain? Get real. Next thing they will want to ban is insect repellent because it is cruel and unusual punishment for the bugs.

Hey, if anyone wants to discuss the issue further, come over to my house. I’m having venison steaks for dinner.
