CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – A familiar border dispute returns to the New Hampshire capital this week.
A public hearing is scheduled on a bill that urges Congress to find the Piscataqua River and Portsmouth Harbor within the state of New Hampshire, not Maine.
The states have battled for decades over title to the Piscataqua River island that is home to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 1970 that the shipyard is in Maine.

Lafond, who is a convicted felon, also is accused of carrying a switch blade and a stolen cell phone.
Bode’s hometown hears about win
FRANCONIA, N.H. (AP) – When Bode Miller became the first American in 22 years to win skiing’s overall World Cup title, the news was announced by loudspeaker across the Bretton Woods ski area and added to the resort’s recorded telephone message.
Miller grew up in nearby Franconia, and those who know him breathed a sigh of relief Saturday when he finally clinched the title.
“We’ve been keeping close tabs on our boy,” said Chris Elms, mountain manager at Bretton Woods, where Miller holds the title of director of skiing.
“We know that Bode can be unpredictable; there’s a side of him that goes for the gusto,” Elms said. “Then there’s a side where he’s smart and takes his foot off the throttle.”
The win also was the hot topic of conversation at the Franconia Village Store.
“Everyone is saying how great it is that he has definitely won,” said Ellie Lovett. “Last week, we were all sweating it.”

Cooperative Police Department

GREENVILLE, N.H. (AP) – Two small towns have voted to create New Hampshire’s first cooperative police department.
Voters in Greenville and Temple decided Saturday to establish a new police department that would serve both towns. Greenville already has disbanded its department and is now covered by the Hillsborough County sheriff’s office.
The move would give the towns greater flexibility with staffing, as well as increased purchasing power. Under the proposed plan, the Greenville police station would handle all arrests and bookings. Greenville also would cover most of the cost of the new department because it has more people.
