ORONO (AP) – A search committee has winnowed its list of candidates for president of the University of Maine to four administrators, who now will be invited to visit the campus of the state’s flagship university.

The names released Tuesday include the university’s interim President Robert Kennedy, Mary Ann Rankin of the University of Texas-Austin; Brian Foster from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque; and P. Geoffrey Feiss of William and Mary.

The schedule of visits has yet to be announced. After that, Westphal will make his choice and submit his recommendation to the University of Maine System Board of Trustees for its approval.

Rankin currently serves as dean of the College of Natural Sciences at the University of Texas-Austin; Foster is provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque; and Geoffrey Feiss is provost of the College of William and Mary in Virginia.

Kennedy has served since Peter Hoff resigned last August. Before assuming the post, Kennedy served as Maine’s executive vice president and provost.

The presidential search committee began its search in November. Off-site interviews narrowed eight candidates to four last week.
